College football is back and attending MDEV 2024

Hello and welcome back to the blog. Hope you all had a wonderful Fourth of July. This month we are talking about perhaps one of my most anticipated video games to launch this year. EA SPORTS College Football 25. There is an abundance of nostalgia for me playing this game. When I was younger, my friends and I would go to the closest home with a console and a copy of NCAA football and play it way later than we probably should have, and eat too much pizza.

I am beyond happy to say that we are so back. By we, I simply mean the game itself. The game was announced 3 years ago in 2021 and has been developing for many years. The gameplay feels incredibly snappy and smoother than any college football game I have played in the past, and it is smoother than its older brother, Madden. The game perfectly captures the essence of college football the sights, the sounds, and the celebrations. The broadcast crew is also spectacular and as a college gameday watcher every Saturday during the season hearing Kirk and Rece puts a smile on my face the entire time. They did a great job in the VO booth.

College Football 25 production I also find very intriguing. Most sports games are put out every year meaning their production is more linear in the Waterfall approach than adopting an Agile framework, not to say the former can't incorporate certain Agile elements. The fact that the gameplay is so smooth, in comparison to other sports simulation titles, leads me to believe they would benefit from an every-other-year schedule or even every 3-4 years. It allows developers more time in the roadmap to iterate on the systems they have crafted. Do I believe that will ever happen? Unfortunately, I do not, due to the reality that the industry is a business and that the game studios that make sports games have contracts with the league of the sport requiring them to release a title yearly.

Improvements can be made to NCAA College Football 25 such as streamlining the experience in the menus and offering more diverse play calls, or even just letting the player always call the plays in the road to glory mode where you play as the college football athlete. All that said I have played through a full season of college football already, won the national championship, and am halfway through the second season going for another, and hopefully a Heisman.

After over ten years since the last game, I am happy that college football came back with a solid start and I look forward to seeing the game's development and future production. As always if you worked on the game let me know and I would love to chat about it. Oh yeah and go Cowboys #OklahomaState

Now for a brief but exciting personal update. I am extremely excited to announce that I am attending the Midwest Game Developers Conference or MDEV in November. I love the work that https://www.midwestgames.com/ has been doing showcasing the incredible game development talent across the Midwest. They have been putting on the conference for a few years now. As someone who has grown up in the Midwest, I find the company's work incredibly inspiring to promote the wonderful voices and creators in the Midwest. If you want to learn more about MDEV Conference 2024 visit https://www.mdevconf.com/ Please note that this blog is not sponsored my Midwest Games, The MDEV conference, or its affiliates. This post is to share excitement for the conference.

If you will be attending MDEV let me know in the comments. I would love to meet and connect. I am so excited to learn from other developers at the conference and look forward to continuing to help grow the games industry across the Midwest.

Thanks for reading and take care of yourself,
