Hello and welcome back to another blog. It has been a crazy past couple of weeks. I still wanted to write a few words about the game that has had all of my attention recently. Marvel's Midnight Suns.
The game is made by a company called Firaxis. You will most likely know the studio from the Civilization franchise. The company has taken that same level of strategy in the Civilization games and applied it to a narrative-driven Marvel Game. While not as well known, the Midnight Suns can be considered similar to the Avengers but deals with more of the supernatural and features less-known characters such as Blade and Ghost Rider.
The game features a turn-based card combat system where your team of three heroes each have different abilities. You must strategize to eliminate the enemies as soon as possible otherwise enemies will keep coming until you reach a certain point. The game is exciting from a design space because you can't just use basic attack cards on the enemies you also need to use support cards to give your specific hero enough points to pull off higher-level attacks.
The game from a production standpoint seems well done. It was quietly announced, released, and in my opinion, doesn't get enough credit. This is most likely because it's not the typical 3rd person action adventure Marvel game we are used to seeing. However, Firaxis was able to put out a high-quality product, that I haven't run into technical issues with, has an enjoyable in-depth combat system, and an intriguing story with awesome Marvel Characters that we usually don't get to see in the typical media, whether that be television, movies, or other video games.
Firaxis has created a wonderful game and if you have the opportunity I encourage you to check it out.
Crazy that it has been a year since I started writing these blogs. When I started I wanted to be able to give my thoughts on game production processes but one of the main reasons was also documenting the journey of SoulSync City and how awesome, challenging, and rewarding it was to produce that project. It's available now please check it out :) Moving forward as we head into year 2 of the blogs I want to continue giving my thoughts on games I am playing, topics in the industry, and my experience at MDEV this year. Either way, thank you whether you're reading this blog for the first time or you have read them all. So glad to have you here.
Thanks for reading and take care of yourself.
